25 Years of Colossos - The Path to the Giant
A quarter of a century of pure adrenaline, thundering speed, and unforgettable moments: Colossos turns 25 years old!
Get ready for a journey through the history of our wooden roller coaster:
-
The construction of a legend began
Before Colossos became the wooden giant that everyone knows today, it looked very different in the year 2000 at this exact spot: instead of thundering trains and wooden tracks, a huge construction site dominated the scene.
Heavy machinery, tons of wood, and months of precision work laid the foundation back then for one of the most impressive construction projects in the entire park – the beginning of a true roller coaster icon.
-
The giant takes shape
As the first massive wooden blocks were processed and assembled, it slowly began to become clear what would emerge here. Piece by piece, the imposing wooden structure grew upward – and early on, it was clear to many observers: something very special was being created here.
With thousands of precisely cut wooden beams, an enormous amount of manual labor, and impressive engineering, Colossos developed over the following months into a true wooden giant.
At the end of this intensive construction phase stood a roller coaster that set new standards – one of the largest and fastest wooden roller coasters in Europe, which continues to inspire awe, adrenaline, and unforgettable moments to this day.
-
The first ride
The day everyone has been waiting for: Colossos sets off on its very first ride on Friday, 13.04.2001!
For the crew, the engineers, and everyone who followed the construction, it was an emotional moment: from plans and construction site to reality – a giant that was destined to make history.
-
Miss Liberty is moving
The upper part of the Statue of Liberty, which shaped the image of Heide Park Lake for many years, is being moved to the interior of the attraction.
-
Retheming and temporary closure
For its 15th birthday, Colossos gets a fresh look: new logo, new theming around the tree people, and a newly arranged soundtrack – the station and waiting area shine in modern design. But later that same summer, the ride has to close due to defects in the tracks, and for a long time it remains unclear what will happen next. On January 11, 2018, Merlin Entertainments finally decides to renovate Colossos extensively and bring it back as "Colossos – Battle of the Giants." In June 2018, the renovation work begins with the removal of the first track.
-
